Terms of service
Last updated November 2, 2026
- You own your scripts and production data. We only use them to run ShootSlate for you.
- Schedules, budgets, alerts, weather and tax-credit figures are planning aids. Your production stays responsible for its decisions, safety and deals.
- Paid plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel any time. Refunds follow our refund policy.
- These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Charlie Yang, of British Columbia, Canada, who operates ShootSlate ("we", "us"). They apply to the website at shootslate.com and app.shootslate.com and to the ShootSlate iPhone app. By creating an account or using ShootSlate, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you use ShootSlate for a company or production, you confirm you're allowed to agree on its behalf, and "you" includes it.
2. Who can use ShootSlate
You must be 18 or older to hold an account. Keep your sign-in details secure, keep your account information accurate, and tell us straight away at hello@shootslate.com if you think someone else is using your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
3. Your content
Everything you or your team put into ShootSlate, such as scripts, notes, schedules, budgets, photos and contacts, stays yours. You give us permission to store, process, copy and display it, and to send it to the people and services you choose (for example, emailing call sheets, or sending content to our AI provider when you use an AI feature), only as needed to run ShootSlate for you. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that expire on the schedule in our privacy policy. We don't claim ownership of your content, and we don't use it for advertising or to train AI models.
You confirm you have the rights to the content you add, including scripts you upload, and that adding it doesn't break anyone else's rights or any law.
4. Information about cast and crew
If you add people to a production, such as cast and crew with their contact details, availability and pay, you're responsible for having their permission or another lawful basis, for telling them how their information is used, and for sending them only the emails a production would normally send, such as call sheets and reports. We process that information on your behalf, as described in our privacy policy.
5. Sharing
You decide who sees what: teammates by role and section, and links that anyone holding them can open (share links, investor packs and personal call-sheet links). Share links only with the people they're meant for, and turn them off when they're no longer needed.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use ShootSlate to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone's copyright, privacy or other rights;
- send spam or any email the recipient wouldn't expect from a production they're part of;
- upload malware, or try to get into accounts, projects or systems you're not allowed into;
- copy or scrape the service, overload it, get around plan limits or security, or resell it without our written agreement.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we'll tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it.
7. AI features and planning tools
ShootSlate's schedules, budgets, projections, cost ideas, weather, alerts and AI features (scene rewrites, script notes, "make it cheaper" ideas, and tax-credit lookups) are aids for planning. They can be incomplete or wrong. Check them before relying on them; tax-credit information is not tax or legal advice. Your production remains responsible for its decisions, including safety on set, working hours, union and guild rules, labour law, insurance, and its agreements with cast, crew and locations.
8. Plans and payments
- Prices are shown on the Plan and billing page, in US dollars, plus any applicable taxes. Payments are processed by Stripe under its terms.
- Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period, using the payment method on file, until you cancel. You can cancel any time from Plan and billing; your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
- A Project pass is a single payment that unlocks paid features for one project for 182 days. Buying another extends it.
- If a renewal payment fails, we'll let you know and give you time to update your card; if it isn't fixed, the account moves to the Free plan. Your projects stay, but paid features lock.
- We may change prices or plans. Price changes apply from your next renewal, and we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email.
- Refunds follow our refund policy.
9. Changes to ShootSlate
We keep improving ShootSlate, so features may change. If we remove a paid feature you rely on, we'll tell you in advance, and if you've prepaid for a period you can no longer use as intended, you can ask for a proportionate refund.
10. Availability and backups
We work to keep ShootSlate available and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free, including when you're offline on set. Keep your own copies of anything critical, such as your shooting script and the day's call sheet.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using ShootSlate and delete your account at any time from Your account. Deleting your account deletes the projects you own and everything in them, as described in our privacy policy. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. Sections 3 (as to rights you've given until deletion), 7, 12, 13 and 14 continue after your use ends.
12. Disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, ShootSlate is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, including that it is fit for a particular purpose or free of errors. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be excluded.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost revenue, production delays or lost data, and our total liability for any claim relating to ShootSlate is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$100. This doesn't limit liability that can't be limited by law.
14. Your responsibility to us
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you added or because you broke these terms or the law, you'll cover the reasonable costs, losses and legal fees that result.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of British Columbia, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere. Before going to court, write to us at hello@shootslate.com; most problems can be solved that way.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with its date, and for significant changes we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using ShootSlate after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
